Neuro-Attuned Psychodynamic Therapy

What is NAPT?

Neuro-Attuned Psychodynamic Psychotherapy (NAPT) is an approach I have developed from my psychodynamic psychotherapy training, more than 20 years of clinical experience, my work with neurodivergent clients, and an ongoing interest in neuroscience. It is not a separate qualification or formally recognised therapeutic model. Rather, it is a way of thinking about and understanding human experience that brings together psychodynamic ideas, lived experience, and current understanding of the brain, body, and nervous system.

Neurodivergence

Many people spend years adapting to the world around them without fully recognising how those adaptations have influenced their sense of self. This can be especially relevant for neurodivergent individuals whose experiences may not have been fully understood, acknowledged, or reflected back in meaningful ways. Over time, coping strategies that once helped us navigate the world can become so familiar that they feel inseparable from who we are.

How can NAPT help?

My approach provides a reflective and supportive space to explore these experiences. Together, we can identify long-standing patterns, understand how they developed, and reconnect with aspects of yourself that may have been overlooked, hidden, or difficult to express. The aim is not to change who you are, but to develop a deeper understanding of yourself and your experiences, allowing more choice, self-acceptance, and authenticity in everyday life.

Beginning therapy

In our initial phone conversation or emails, we can discuss what might happen when we first meet, and the kind of things we might talk about.  We can also discuss the differences between in-person or online appointments, and choose which feels best for you.
